Belize is a nation on the eastern coast of Central America, with the Caribbean Sea shorelines to the east and dense jungle to the west. Offshore, there is the massive Belize Barrier Reef, the largest Barrier Reef in the northern hemisphere, dotted with hundreds of low-lying islands called cayes. The Barrier Reef is home to seven marine protected areas. Belize’s jungle areas covers about 60% of it's land mass. There are over 600 ancient Mayan site in the country with the popular ones being Xunantunitch, Lubantun, Nim Li Punit, Caracol, Al Tun Ha', to name a few. Apart from the Maya Ruins and the Barrier Reef, Belize is also home to the only Jaguar Reserve in the world. There are 103 protected areas in Belze, these comprise of National Parks, Natural Reserves, Natural Monuments, Forest Reserves and Wildlife Sanctuaries.
